Decisions, Decisions

As we go through life we are given many opportunities to act and many forks in the road where we need  to decide the path to follow. As a parent and motivational speaker I desire to guide others on the best path to chose, but it is the blessing we each have to chose our own path. The path that is best, or percieved as best, by me, may not be the best for someone else. The blessing of choice is the greatest gift given to us by the creator, the gift of co-creation. We are born with certain talents and a spicific personality type and our choices, or failure to chose, create who we are and what we become. But it is also a responsibility, and not to be taken lightly.

“You are the person who has to decide. Whether you'll do it or toss it aside; You are the person who makes up your mind. Whether you'll lead or will linger behind. Whether you'll try for the goal that's afar. Or just be contented to stay where you are.” this poem by Edgar A. Guest expresses the point that we chose what we are and what we become. Some times those choices are made by default. Lingering or not choosing, is choosing.
Other than procrastination the biggest problem most people have is not knowing, and worrying where the path will lead. Creating a road map of life is hard “there are to many paths”, “the world traveling so fast”, “what if I make a wrong turn”. I say so what! Look at any road map and you will see that where ever you are there is a road that will take you where you want to go. If you make a wrong turn there is always a new road to follow toward the place you want to be.
One of the greatest misconceptions is the idea that we must follow the road less traveled, but that is only true if you want to go where it leads you. Some times it is the best to take a road that is well paved and get to a point fast. Then later you can meander down the quiet paths. That is the goal for me, to spend the most time enjoying the sights and sounds of the world around and enjoy the experience of living. But some times you just have to get “there”.
The main point is to have a passion or plan in your life, follow that plan till it takes you where you are supposed to be. Then renew or revise the plan and move on. If you take the wrong path enjoy the scenery and look for the road that moves in the direction you want to go. Who knows you may even find that you are someplace you never expected to be, but it is just what you were looking for.
