Sail on

What is the key to success? How do we go about creating the life that we want? I think that the first thing that must be done is to see where you are going then keep moving. No one is given life on a platter or in a package, gift wrapped. When we want to go some where we need to create a plan.
As a mariner I can relate the trip of life to planing a sea voyage. A voyage plan is not complicated but it does require that you spend time looking at all the possibilities, then deciding the best path to take. After that decision is made then you must look at the route and find the possible dangers along that route and how to avoid them. Next you look for the places that may be areas of safety if the weather goes bad or some other difficulties come up. This includes looking at normal weather pattern and sea currents in the areas being traveled. Finally you look at the tides and weather forecasts, for the voyage and decide when to leave.
Once you are on your way you need to stick to the plan and see it through. As Shelley Long said, “If you don't quit, and don't cheat, and don't run home when trouble arrives, you can only win.” this is true in life as well as at sea. Constantly moving in the direction that you want to go will always bring you closer to your goal. The storms of life are always there ,and that adds spice and excitement, but they are not a reason to run back home.
Life is the same you plan for the way you want to go, see what the obstacles may be, and how you may avoid them. You look at the place you are at now and decide when to move forward. When you are on the way expect the storms and steer accordingly keep moving in the direction you need to go and you will get there. But don't forget to enjoy the trip!
